May 09 Wheels and tyresApril 26 More side projects The body is in hi-fill ready for blocking, I'm just waiting for some decent weather so I can paint inside the doors and the boot. To keep things moving along I've been doing a couple more side projects. The first project was to get the gearshift back on the column but with the T400 and the 4 into 1 headers there isn't enough room for a linkage set up so I made a cable set up using a B&M race cable. The 2nd project was a fan module with 2 x 14" thermo fans. ![]() ![]() March 29 Colour starting to go onNovember 29 Side projectI wanted a little break from doing bodywork on the HQ so I decided to do a little side project. I don't like the feel of the standard HQ accelerator linkage but I don't really want to put a cable set up on it. So I got some rod ends like they use on racecar linkage set ups and using the standard bellcranks I made my own linkages to connect them. The pedal feel is so much better, the difference is like day and night. There's a couple more pics in the pictures section.
Here's a video of the HQ running with a full exhaust that I built. Twin 2-1/2

January 05 My HQ (Update)Started doing some more of the body work, stripped the left hand rear quarter panel and found a couple of small rust spots in the dogleg and a small amount in the lower 1/4 which has all now been cut out and plated (see pics) A small amout of body filler will smooth it out and I'll be ready to tackle the right hand quarter.
December 14 My HQ (update)June 20 My HQMy HQ was bought new by my grandfather in 1974. It was a 6 cylinder 3 speed manual Belmont (base model) with only a few basic dealer fit options (sunvisor, venetian blind, door handle scratch plates, bumper overriders, etc) When my grandfather died in 1983 my dad got it and used it as his daily driver which took it's toll. A few years ago dad got himself a new car and I got the HQ. When I got the car the original running gear was long gone so a complete restoration was always going to be difficult. I've decided to "resto-mod" it. I had a complete drive train out of my previous HJ GTS (308, T400 & 10 bolt rear) so that's all been fitted. I plan to restore the outside to factory standard, original colour (Safron metalic orange), exterior trim, badges etc. The only exterior mods will be chrome Pontiac II (same as HQ GTS) wheels and lowered suspension. Time has also taken it's toll on the interior so I'm planning on having it retrimmed (including the original front bench seat) in cloth in the original colour (chesnut brown) similar to original.
